RANFURLY Castle were crowned the Dunfermline building society's junior club of the year at last Friday's Scottish golf dinner last week.
The award recognises clubs' efforts in promoting youngsters' golf and the Bridge of Weir course came top of 29 others from around Scotland.
A Scottish golf union cheque for £1,000 was the prize and will be re-invested in the club's junior programme, but tantalisingly for the young swingers they've also earned two spots in a European Tour pro-am event, playing alongside a leading professional golfer.
Junior convenor Michael McCabe and club captain Douglas Martin said: "We are absolutely delighted to win this award which is great recognition of our activity here and will enable is to continue to deliver great coaching and improved facilities to boost participation among juniors in the game."
Renfrewshire is the only authority in Scotland not to roll out the introductory firstclubgolf game in schools — but Ranfurly have still trained 11 volunteers as coaches.
Recently the club has won the junior Newton Shield, the RGU's team championship as well as providing the local area team with six players and a further five to the Scottish golf union's coaching academy.
