"FOR me, 2009 was another year in which it has been a privilege to be your provost.
"In January, Renfrewshire was chosen to host Scotland's national Holocaust Memorial Day event. This was led by our school pupils who did a wonderful and moving job on this poignant occasion.
"Once again it was a pleasure to meet some of Renfrewsh
ire's unsung heroes at the provost's community awards in February and I am very much looking forward to the 2010 awards.
"In June I joined thepProvosts of East Renfrewshire and Inverclyde to lead our first Armed Forces day event. Hundreds of Renfrewshire residents paid tribute to the very brave local men and women who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces and plans are underway for the next Armed Forces day.
"Another source of pride is world-renowned artist Sandy Stoddart who in October became the first person in 50 years to be awarded the freedom of Renfrewshire.
"Not only is Sandy exceptionally talented, he is a wonderful spokesman for Renfrewshire.
"The people of Renfrewshire again proved their generosity in November by raising £25,000 for MS Society Scotland at the provost's charity ball.
"This money will go directly to helping local MS sufferers.
"I also joined the thousands of you who enjoyed the fantastic events we've had this year, including fireworks night and Paisley's Christmas lights switch-on, and I am sure there will be more events to look forward to in 2010.
"Finally I'd just like to remind us all at this time of year to remember those less fortunate than ourselves and I wish you all a very happy new year".
