A DEDICATED lollipop lady known as Libby, from Uplawmoor, has been honoured by the Queen.

Lysbeth Ramsay has safely guided youngsters across the village main street to their school for 28 years.

But her appointment as MBE comes just too late for her father to share the good news.

Libby's mum Pat told The Extra: "My husband, Bob,
died two months ago, so he never knew that she had been officially nominated.

"But he did know that someone in the village was putting her name forward. He would have been so proud of Libby — we all are.

"Everyone in the village knows her and she's had congratulations about it from them all."

The family first moved to Uplawmoor when Bob became village police officer in 1972.

He was the first and last to take up the post, as the station has since closed.

And Pat is also well known in the community, having worked as a nurse at Barrhead health centre for years.

Libby (45) told The Extra: "I like living in a place where everyone knows each other.

"All of the schoolchildren have said well done and they took me up to the school and handed over a big bunch of flowers."

As well as her day job, Libby has helped out at the Sunday school in Caldwell parish church for the past 25 years.

She said: "I love working with children so that's the best part of my job.

"I've seen a lot of families growing up over the years and that's been really nice.

"I couldn't imagine doing anything else now — it's a job for life."
Libby will be given an appointment in the next six months to attend at either Buckingham Palace or at the palace of Holyroodhouse — and sister Susan and niece Laura (26) have already offered help in choosing a regal outfit.

Libby added: "My nephew Stewart (23) is also hoping it will mean an overnight trip to London.

"I'm very excited about attending and looking forward to finding out when it will be."
