HELPING others in need is the key career goal for Bishopton care worker Sharon Orr.
But now the mum-of-one is to be honoured for her success in the job she loves.

Sharon has been nominated as a finalist for employee of the year at the Scottish care at home awards being held at a Glasgow hotel tomorrow.

Sharon told The Extra: "
I was totally shocked to hear that I'd been nominated — I was shaking all over. But I'm absolutely delighted".

Sharon, now in her 30s, has been in the care industry for six years, starting as a community carer in clients' home then working her way up to home care organiser — and is currently supervisor for Ailsa Care services in Renfrew.

She said: "I organise rotas, make sure staff are properly trained and make visits to new clients to find out exactly what they need.

"Just being able to help people who cannot do things for themselves is what first attracted me to the job.

"I really do love it. It is so satisfying and I've met a lot of nice people along the way.

"We work with people of all ages who are disabled — but I particularly enjoy working with the children.

"I've now got my own son William who is 18 months' old, so I'm busy at home as well as at work but love every bit of it".

Sharon was nominated by her service manager Linda Smith who said: "Sharon is perfectly suited to this profession and always gives 100 per cent.

"She is very passionate about working with children and families and her enthusiasm has been truly infectious among the rest of our staff.
"Whatever the outcome at the awards ceremony, she is a winner in our eyes".

The award dinner at the Marriott will follow a full-day conference for the care sector with representatives including public health minister Shona Robison and Marcia Ramsay from the Care Commission.
