ANYONE with an interest in local life should get along to Arthurlie House at 1.30pm on Saturday.
For it's the launch party of the Wisdom of Barrhead and Neilston. Shirley Robison of Barrhead housing association, which is publishing the volume, said: "Saturday is a chance for residents to come along for information on the project."
It invol
ved pupils from St Luke's high school, with international artists Simon Grennan and Christopher Sperandio guiding their efforts, interviewing people about their home towns.
Added Shirley: "Simon will be there on Saturday as will provost Alex Mackie. It's essentially a party to celebrate the involvement with St Luke's.
"It will be a fairly informal afternoon but there will be some general speeches at the beginning and musicians from the school will provide some background music."
There will also be free refreshments.
The question what is the most important lesson that life has taught you? — prompted answers reflecting personal wisdom, insight and memory.
These unique contributions by Barrhead and Neilston people, reprinted on a one-a-day basis, combine to create a gift to be read, shared and passed on.
Patricia Scott, headteacher of St Luke's, told The Extra: "Our pupils were delighted to take part in this imaginative project. It's a good example of us working with a community organisation.
"And I'm assured that our pupils absorbed a great deal of Barrhead wisdom themselves — as well as exercising their communication skills in a very practical way."
In recent weeks 7,500 copies of The Wisdom have been delivered to all households in Barrhead and Neilston.
The book was published as part of Barrhead art and social inclusion strategy within Barrhead housing association's Wider Role programme, which bids to improve the lives of those in the local community.
